Expressing Ourselves Through Art: Inspired by Great Artists

 In our PYP 3 Unit of Inquiry: Who We Are, students have been exploring the guiding concept: Influence.

Throughout this unit, students have been inquiring into how people, ideas, and experiences can influence who we are and how we express ourselves. To make these ideas come alive, students explored how artists communicate their beliefs, feelings, and values through their unique artistic styles.

We focused on three remarkable artists : Andy Warhol, Yayoi Kusama, and Romero Britto, each known for using art to inspire and influence others. Students learned about their creative journeys, artistic techniques, and the messages behind their work.

Afterward, each student chose one artist as their role model and reflected on how that artist’s style and ideas influenced them. They then expressed their own voice and creativity by designing an artwork inspired by their chosen artist, adding their personal meaning, emotions, and imagination.

Through this experience, students discovered that influence is not only about being inspired by others, It’s also about how we, too, can inspire and influence through our thoughts, actions, and creations. They showed open-mindedness, appreciation for different perspectives, and a caring attitude toward one another’s work.

The final artworks were colorful, expressive, and deeply personal, a celebration of individuality, creativity, and the positive influence that art can have on ourselves and others.
